There are a ton of folk out there who play video games. There are fewer who are hardcore gamers. I would like to start off by pointing out some noticable differences. A person who plays one game all the time will be able to tell you in detail exactly what to do in any situation in that game. They know the names of people and places and creatures and the exp. each one awards(in the case of an RPG). A hardcore on the other hand appreciates all games as works of entertainment and mix it up as often as they can. They will know a little bit of every game across every genre.
Then there is the Nerdcore gamer. he true gamer. These folks are the ones who typically live in a dungeon type area(garage or basement) and has the power strip overloaded with plugs from several systems. They can go into detail about every game like some hybrid of the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer. But as if the fact that they know that isn't enough, they can tell you directors, creation teams, composers, etc. Like if I was to tell you that Yuki Kajiura was to abandon tradition and jump over to assist in biowares production of SW:The forc unleashed the game would lack the feel of the good ol' cantina but still sound wicked you would not know what the hell I am talking about. Unless of course you are Nerdcore.
It doesn't stop there though. No sir, we few also break through the digital to pursue more traditional games. You might think the direction I am going with this is settlers of Katan. Well, yea, sorta. I mean board games are games too. But what I am refferring to more in particular is tabletop. God willing, you will find on some random sunday(for me it is every sunday faithfully for a year.) sitting in someone's home or at a game store rolling the chance cube polyhedrons all about quoting Monte Python and Space balls. ( "They went to plaid!!" )
They Nerdcore spirit lives on in most of us. It is that inner child that we never let go of. That one that says "Hey let's go do something fun instead of the boring adult stuff!" Now there are some out there who take it too far and give us a bad name. First off, there are kids. These 10 year olds screaming obscenities at people online(namely in first person shooters or FPS for short.) and abusing leetspeak. These cretins have flooded the online gaming community like a damn plauge. Next there are those who are like 40 and still live in their parent's basement because the refuse to tackle the adventure of life. The smell funny and have a severe lack of charisma. They have no job and they usually will be caught playing warhammer or D&D or Magic:the gathering.

To sum, just try to note what type of gamer you are accordingly. On this site especially. If you say you love games and you are a hardcore gamer and the only game you have played is WoW and/or FFVII, you aren't. You are a casual gamer and there is nothing wrong with that. Be proud that you can pick out every little detail about any game. just don't confuse the rest of us!^^.

I originally was going to post something short and sweet but got caught up in wanting to catagorize and identify each group accordingly. I hope this helps clear things up.
"Nerdcore" is the intellectual Property of Joy Coe of Pomona, California. She has played every system from the Famicom on up, enjoys comics, has a Degree in graphic design, and is very happy and taken by her wife Michelle.(sorry guys and girls)

I was just pointing out that I had noticed, at the time of the post, that someone had said they were a hardcore gamer, when I asked them what games they played the reply was "WoW". I said great and what else? " I am not really into other games."
I just thought it peculiar to be a hardcore videogamer and not enjoy videogames...
How have you been ^^ ?

`Well if the person is literally spending hours of the day just on World of Warcraft whose to say they aren't a hardcore gamer just cause they don't play any other games. I've personally have always understood the difference between casual and hardcore gamers as how much time they spent playing games, not on how many they play. I mean if I person dedicates themselves to playing nothing but Halo 3 to because the best at it would you really call that person anything else up hardcore? Anyways it's only the way I see it.

`if someone spends all day on wow, id call em kinda sad really...or just on any game in general ^.^' its one thing to be a hardcore gamer its also another thing to be addicted to games also.
honestly (not trying to be mean) but whats the point of trying to date someone if your just gonna stay on games all day? i am kinda biased though, my ex did that to me.

hard to say about this. you would be considered a certain type of hardcore. But overall i think hardcore gamers are those that put their very hearts and souls into games not just sticking with one certain type. But you gotta have a balance of life and games or your going to find you've missed out on love and life itself. that's just my opinion i'm guy who doesn't remember his 7th grade school year after the day I got my gamecube. 8)
